Solstice Greeting

In the Christmas Carol "In the Bleak Midwinter"--

"Snow had fallen, snow on snow,
Snow on snow,
In the bleak mid-winter,
Long ago.
"

We have no snow on snow. We have no snow. Still the solstice is not dependent on snow--and here we are on the darkest day, the pivot toward light. So let's toast to what keeps us going-- to lots of candles, to cherishing warmth and light, to the company of good friends, family, and rambunctious children, to libraries, to independent bookstores, to cinnamon babka, to the rambunctious, hopeful, funny, or tender stories that we read and/or hope to write.

And tomorrow there will be more light.
